This program is designed to be a first exposure to theatre arts and will be a production by youth and for youth. The student performers will be split into a k-2 group who will not be expected to memorize lines and a 3-5 group who will have slightly higher expectations. Both groups will be expertly lead toward successfully creating and performing their mini-plays.
Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30pm in the Lincoln Cafeteria starting Sept 24, 2024. Please ensure your student is available for all the rehearsals so they have enough time to feel successful on performance day. Parents do not need to be present during rehearsals but students MUST be picked up by 4:30pm. Plan to be available for pick up by 4:20pm.
Performance day is Wednesday October 16. Kids should come after school for the last rehearsal and stay for the performance at 5pm. Please ensure that there is a family member who is able to attend the 5pm performance. Each student should have a special someone in the audience.
Directing the program will be former Lincoln parent and current Lincoln grandparent, Leslie Van Leishout. Leslie has an undergraduate degree in theater education and more than 40 years of experience in creative dramatics and educational theatre. Leslie was the nationally recognized director of the River Ridge High School theatre program for 15 years. She also has a Master’s in educational administration and spent the last 13 years as the North Thurston Public School Director of Student Support. Her approach is appropriate for children with learning differences and neurodivergence.
